Middle School Art
During the middle school years students will be in art class for nine weeks. During that time, they will do a variety of 2D and 3D art projects that will improve their skills and expand their knowledge of the arts.
I am currently teaching the 7th grade and the students have completed 2 major projects. The first is ceramics in which students created a sculpture based on their favorite food.

Face Drawing
Students learned the proportions of the human face, where the facial features are placed and how to shade the face so it will look three dimensional and realistic.
7th Grade Ceramic Food Sculpture
Students learned about the "Pop" artists of the 1960's and 70's and then created their own Pop Art Food Sculpture.
8TH GRADE
Slab Boxes
Students have been constructing boxes from clay slabs and adding thematic details and decoration. We are nearing the end of the building phase and will let the work dry before it is fired and glazed. Following are just a few of the boxes.
Color Wheel Paintings
Students drew a picture of an animal and created small amorphous shapes inside the larger shape. They then painted the image by using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, blending to look rainbow-like. When this process was finished, they carefully added black paint between and around the shapes to emphasize the color. The results are beautiful!!
6th Grade Art
Students learned basic color theory including how a color wheel works and why the colors are placed in a specific order. They each created their own design for their wheel and flipped the complementary colors.
